History

2007

Executive Director's from the founding agencies began to meet regularly to create relationships and support systems amongst themselves and their organizations that would enhance social service delivery to the Shuswap.

It soon became evident that some more formal structures or protocols would be required were true collaborative initiatives to succeed, to become routine, and to be available to future boards and staff of member agencies.

2008

A POD (Partners in Organizational Development) Grant from BC Centre for Non-Profit Sustainability, resulted in a feasibility study, a workshop in April and another in July.

The findings were discussed in each organization and all the Agency Boards passed resolutions supporting the formation of a Co-op.

Grants from Partners in Organization Development (POD) from the BC Centre for Non-profit Sustainability and the Federal Government Co-operatives Secretariat grant enabled the ED Committee to hire facilitator, Clyde Tucker of Twin Eagles Research, to do a feasibility study and create a collaborative model.

Information was gathered from Mr. Tim Beachy, CEO of Vancouver United Services Co-op, and two other successful shared service co-operatives; one is a Williams Lake, BC co-op, the other is one from BC's Kootenay Boundary region.

This more formal structure would eventually lead the group to a separate entity called the Shuswap Community Resource Co-operative(SCRC) that was incorporated in November 2008.

2009

Funds from the Federal Government Co-operatives through the Co-operatives Development Initiative were awarded to assist the co-op in becoming functional

The Co-op is formally launched
